Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) is caused by prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) and is one of the most common developmental disorders, estimated to affect 4% of Canadians. PAE is linked to behavioural changes and higher prevalence of mental health challenges, but we do not yet understand how PAE impacts the brain. This study aims to better understand how exposure to alcohol early in life affects a child's brain, behaviour, and mental health.

Stress experienced by pregnant individuals is known to affect the development of their baby. Mild stress or anxiety may have some positive effects on development, but high levels of stress may have the opposite effect. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted our societal norms and introduced new stressors for many. This study aims to study the well-being of those pregnant during the pandemic, and their babies.
