We are investigating structural and functional brain differences in children with Autism Spectrum disorder (ASD). We are using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques, including Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and Functional MRI (fMRI), to assess the structure of white matter pathways that have been previously connected with cognitive or behavioral impairments in clinical patients diagnosed with ASD. Specifically, we are aiming to understand the brain basis of sensory sensitivities (visual, tactile, and auditory), which over 90% of all individuals with ASD exhibit. By improving our understanding of these sensitivities, our research contributes to the development of better methods of treatments for individuals living with ASD.
